Shopify Development Company For Mumbai Brands

Shopify stores for Mumbai D2C labels, beauty brands and marketplace sellers building a store of their own. Built by our team in Vadodara and Bengaluru, with checkout, COD and returns set up for how India actually buys.

The brief we hear most from Mumbai

From marketplace seller to your own store

A lot of Mumbai brands grew up on Myntra, Nykaa, Ajio or Amazon. The marketplace brought volume, then took the margin, the customer data and control over how the brand looks. The own-store project usually starts when a founder realises they cannot email a single one of their best customers.

The mistake is building the store as if the marketplace audience will simply follow. It will not. The first months of a D2C store are about paid and influencer traffic landing on product pages that load fast on a mid-range Android phone, and a checkout that does not lose people at the OTP screen.

So we build for that traffic first: fast collection and product templates, a one-page checkout, COD handled with sense, and tracking that tells you which creator or campaign actually sold something. Detail on the platform side is on our Shopify development services page.

What changes when you leave the marketplace

  • You own the customer list, so retention (email, WhatsApp, loyalty) becomes a real channel
  • You carry returns, RTO and COD risk yourself, so they need rules, not hope
  • Product content has to sell without a marketplace’s trust badge behind it
  • Inventory has to stay in sync if you keep selling on the marketplaces too
  • GST invoices, shipping labels and refunds move from the marketplace to your team
Built for Indian buyers

The checkout and operations stack we set up

A Shopify theme bought online will not handle any of this out of the box. These are the choices we make with you during scoping, not after launch.

AreaWhat we typically useWhy it matters
CheckoutGoKwik or Shopflo one-page checkout, with phone number and OTP loginFewer steps between the product page and payment, and prefilled addresses for returning buyers
PaymentsRazorpay, PayU, Cashfree or PhonePe, with UPI up frontUPI is how most of your buyers want to pay, so it should not be buried under card forms
Cash on deliveryCOD rules by pin code, order value and customer history, plus a prepaid nudgeCOD sells, and COD orders that come back as RTO eat the margin. Both are true, so it needs rules
ShippingShiprocket or Delhivery with pin code serviceability checks on the product pageBuyers see a delivery date before they commit, and unserviceable pin codes stop at the cart
GSTGST-compliant invoices, HSN codes and state-wise tax set up correctlyYour accountant stops correcting invoices by hand at the end of every month
RetentionWhatsApp order updates, abandoned cart flows and emailOnce you own the customer list, this is where repeat revenue comes from

Our Future Roots build on Shopify used OTP login and GoKwik one-page checkout for exactly these reasons. For payment gateway work in more depth, see Shopify payment gateway integration.

Fashion, beauty and personal care

Where Mumbai D2C stores break, and what we do about it

The influencer spike

A single creator post can send more traffic in an hour than the store sees in a week. Heavy apps and unoptimised images are what fail under that load, so we keep the theme lean and test the pages that will take the hit. See our Shopify speed work.

Sizing and shade returns

In fashion the return is usually size; in beauty it is shade. Size charts per product, fit notes, shade finders and exchange-first returns reduce both, and they are cheaper to build than the returns they prevent.

Store plus marketplaces

Most brands keep selling on marketplaces after launch. Inventory sync, order routing and a clear rule on which channel gets the last units stop overselling. We connect these through ERP and inventory integrations.

Not every Mumbai brief is Shopify

When we recommend Magento instead

Large catalogues, distributor and dealer pricing, or a business that sells to trade buyers and consumers from one store are better served by Magento 2. Our Powerlook project, a menswear brand, runs a headless storefront on a Magento 2 backend. If your brief looks more like that, start with our Magento development services.

We will tell you which platform fits on the first call, including when the answer is to stay where you are for another year.

Frequently asked

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

Do you have an office in Mumbai?

No, we do not have a Mumbai office, and we would rather say so than list a borrowed address. Our engineers work from our head office in Vadodara and our second office in Bengaluru. Mumbai clients work with us over video calls, shared staging links and sprint demos, which is how most Shopify projects run even when the agency is across town. When a workshop in person genuinely helps, such as a kickoff with your merchandising and operations teams, Vadodara is a short flight or a morning train from Mumbai, and we plan that visit into the scope rather than charging for it as a surprise.

Why choose a Shopify development company outside Mumbai?

Because what decides a Shopify project is the engineering, the checkout choices and how the team communicates, not the postcode. A Mumbai agency can meet you more easily, and that is a real advantage for some founders. What we offer instead is 12+ years of Shopify and Magento work, 150+ projects for 100+ brands, and a senior team that has already solved the COD, RTO and GST problems a Mumbai D2C brand runs into. If meeting in person every week matters more to you than those things, a local agency is the better fit, and we will tell you that honestly.

How long does it take to launch a Shopify store for a Mumbai brand?

A focused Shopify store with a customised theme, Indian payments, COD rules and shipping integration usually takes four to eight weeks from signed scope to launch. The range depends mostly on how ready your product content is, whether you need a custom theme or a well-chosen premium one, and how many integrations are involved, such as marketplace inventory sync or an ERP. Moving an existing store from another platform adds time for data migration and redirects. We give you a specific date in the written scope, and if your campaign date is unrealistic we say so on the first call.

We sell on Myntra and Nykaa. Should we build our own Shopify store?

Usually yes, as an addition rather than a replacement. Marketplaces bring volume but keep the customer data and a large share of the margin, and they control how your brand is presented. An own Shopify store lets you build an email and WhatsApp list, run your own offers and learn which products bring customers back. The catch is that you must bring your own traffic and carry returns and COD risk yourself. Most brands keep the marketplaces running, sync inventory across channels, and grow the own store gradually through paid, influencer and retention channels.

Which payment gateway should an Indian Shopify store use?

For most Indian Shopify stores, Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree or PhonePe all work well, and the right choice comes down to pricing on your volume, settlement speed and how well the gateway handles UPI. UPI should sit at the top of the payment options because it is how most Indian shoppers want to pay. Many brands also use a one-page checkout such as GoKwik or Shopflo, which brings its own payment options and phone-based login. We compare the options against your order volume and average order value during scoping rather than defaulting to one provider.

How do you reduce COD returns and RTO on Shopify?

We reduce RTO by making cash on delivery a rule-based option rather than a default. That means disabling COD for pin codes with high return rates, capping it above a certain order value, limiting it for customers with a history of refused orders, and nudging buyers towards prepaid with a small incentive. Address verification and order confirmation over WhatsApp before dispatch also cut fake and impulse orders. The goal is not to remove COD, which still sells, but to keep the COD orders that actually get delivered. Checkout tools such as GoKwik include RTO prediction that we configure as part of the build.

Can you move our store from WooCommerce or Magento to Shopify?

Yes. We migrate products, variants, customers, order history and content to Shopify, and we map every old URL to its new address with 301 redirects so search rankings carry across. Customer passwords cannot be moved between platforms, so customers set a new one on first login, and we plan the email that tells them. For stores with large catalogues, complex pricing or trade buyers we sometimes recommend staying on Magento and fixing what is slow instead. You get that recommendation before any migration is scoped, not after it has started.

Do you build Magento stores for Mumbai businesses as well?

Yes. Shopify suits most Mumbai D2C brands, but Magento 2 is the better fit for large catalogues, dealer and distributor pricing, or businesses selling to trade buyers and consumers from the same store. Our Powerlook project, a menswear brand, runs a headless storefront on a Magento 2 backend, which shows the kind of scale where Magento earns its extra running cost. We recommend a platform on the first call based on your catalogue, pricing model and who maintains the store after launch, including when the honest answer is to stay where you are.

Will the store be fast enough for influencer and sale traffic?

It will if speed is designed in from the start, which is how we build. Traffic spikes from creator posts and sale days break stores that carry too many apps, heavy scripts and unoptimised images. We keep the theme lean, replace apps with native Shopify features or light custom code where it makes sense, serve images in modern formats, and test the product and collection pages that will take the load. Shopify handles the hosting side well. Most slowdowns come from what gets added to the theme, so that is where we put the effort.

How do GST invoices work on a Shopify store in India?

Shopify can produce GST-compliant invoices once the store is set up correctly, with your GSTIN, HSN codes on products, correct tax rates and state-wise handling so intra-state orders carry CGST and SGST and inter-state orders carry IGST. Most brands add an invoicing app or connect Shopify to their accounting or ERP system so invoices and credit notes for returns are generated automatically. We set this up during the build and test it with real order scenarios, because tax mistakes are cheap to fix before launch and tedious to fix after hundreds of orders.

What does it cost to work with you from Mumbai?

The cost depends on scope, so we quote each project in writing after a scoping call rather than publishing a rate card. What drives the number is whether you need a custom theme, how many integrations are involved, whether a migration is part of it, and how much product content we need to prepare. You get a fixed scope and a fixed price before work starts, and any change is discussed and agreed before anyone spends an extra hour on it. Being based in Vadodara and Bengaluru rather than Mumbai does not add travel costs to that quote.
