Toronto & the GTA

Toronto Web Development Company

We build web platforms, online stores and internal software for companies across Toronto and the GTA. Senior engineers, Eastern-hours coverage, a fixed scope agreed before anyone writes code, and a codebase you own outright at the end.

What gets built

The four briefs we see most from Toronto teams

Toronto is a finance, retail and SaaS town, and the work reflects it. These four account for most of what lands in our inbox from the GTA.

A marketing site that sales can actually use

The site was built three funding rounds ago, the CMS fights every edit, and page speed is hurting paid performance. We rebuild on a headless CMS or a properly structured WordPress install so your marketing team ships a landing page in an afternoon instead of filing a ticket.

Web development services

A Shopify or Shopify Plus build that survives Q4

Plenty of Toronto retailers run a theme that was fine at 200 orders a month and falls over at 2,000. We rebuild the storefront, cut the app bloat that is throttling checkout, and wire in the integrations that stop your ops team re-keying orders by hand.

Shopify development · Canadian ecommerce builds

A SaaS product that needs to get to market

You have the domain expertise and a design partner waiting. What you do not have is six months of hiring runway. We take a validated spec to a working, billable product, then hand over clean code your first in-house hire can read on day one.

SaaS product development in Canada · MVP development

Internal software nobody wants to own

The quoting tool that lives in a spreadsheet. The dispatch board held together by one person. These projects rarely get in-house priority and rarely go away on their own. They are a good fit for a fixed-scope external build.

Custom software development

Working with a remote team

The time zone question, answered honestly

The real objection to an offshore team is not cost or quality, it is the fear of losing a day every time you ask a question. That fear is well earned. Plenty of agencies answer at 3am Toronto time and call it coverage.

Our working day is shifted so it overlaps yours. The engineers on your project are online and reachable for the first half of the Toronto business day, every business day, not on a rota. Questions raised before lunch get answered before you leave. Anything raised after that is waiting for you in Slack the next morning, already actioned rather than acknowledged.

You get one named contact who knows the project, not a ticket queue. If that person is away, you are told who is covering and for how long.

A normal Tuesday

All times Eastern.
6:30amTeam is mid-afternoon in India. Overnight build results and yesterday’s questions are already answered in your channel.
9:00amYou start. Three to four hours of live overlap begins. Calls, demos and review happen here.
12:30pmHand-off note posted: what shipped, what is blocked, what we need from you.
Next 6:30amAnything you raised in your afternoon has been picked up and worked on, not just read.
Greater Toronto Area

Toronto proper is only part of the brief

A good share of the work we do in the region is not downtown. Manufacturers in Mississauga, distributors in Brampton, and B2B firms in Markham all run the same platform problems, usually with smaller internal teams and less tolerance for a six-figure rebuild.

Mississauga

Heavy on logistics, manufacturing and distribution. Briefs here are usually integration-first: get the ERP, the warehouse system and the customer-facing portal speaking to each other without a person in the middle.

Brampton and Vaughan

Wholesale, trades and food distribution. Often a first real website or a first real ordering portal, replacing phone and email ordering that has quietly capped how much the business can take on.

Markham and Scarborough

A lot of B2B services and established retail. Frequently a migration: an ageing platform that works but cannot be extended, and nobody left in the building who knows how it was built.

We work across the region remotely. If you would rather see where we actually are before you commit to anything, our offices and delivery locations page has the full picture.

Context

Why Toronto development costs what it does

Toronto is one of the largest technology employment markets in North America, and it competes for engineers with New York and the Bay Area rather than with the rest of Canada. Bank technology groups, the AI research cluster around the University of Toronto, and a dense layer of funded startups all draw from the same pool.

That is good for the city and expensive for a 30-person company trying to build one product. A senior full-stack hire in Toronto is a substantial annual commitment before benefits, before recruitment fees, and before the three months it takes to find them. For a build that runs twelve weeks, that maths rarely works.

This is the honest case for an external team: not that we are cheaper per hour, but that you are buying twelve weeks of senior capacity without a permanent headcount decision attached to it. When the build is done, it is done. If it goes well and you want that capability in-house, we hand over documentation written for a developer who was not there.

Buying a build is a different decision from buying a hire. Most of the regret we see comes from treating them as the same one.

What projects in this region typically cost

Real ranges in Canadian dollars, from proposals we have actually sent. Your number comes from a scoping call, not from this table, but this will tell you quickly whether we are in the right conversation.

How it runs

From first call to handover

No discovery phase you pay for twice. No change request for every clarification. The scope is agreed in writing before the first commit, and if it genuinely changes, we tell you what that costs before we build it.

Scoping call

45 minutes with an engineer, not a salesperson. We come back with a written scope, a fixed price and a delivery date.

Architecture and sign-off

Data model, integrations and third-party dependencies mapped and agreed. This is where most overruns are prevented.

Build in visible increments

Working demos on a set cadence in your own staging environment. You see progress weekly, not at the end.

QA and launch

Code review, cross-device testing and full staging sign-off before anything reaches production. We do not push straight to live.

Handover and 30 days of support

Repository, documentation and credentials are yours. Genuine bugs and regressions are fixed free for the first 30 days.

Proof

Work you can go and look at

We publish 37 case studies with the platform, the problem and what changed. None of our Toronto clients have agreed to be named publicly, so we are not going to imply otherwise. These are builds in the same shapes.

Frequently asked

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

Is Raulji Technologies based in Toronto?

No, and we would rather say that plainly than let a city page imply otherwise. Raulji Technologies is an AI and eCommerce development company with offices in Vadodara and Bengaluru, and we have been building commercial software since 2014. What we run for Toronto clients is a delivery team scheduled around Eastern Time, with a named contact reachable during the first half of your business day. If your requirement genuinely needs someone physically in the room on a regular basis, a local agency is the right answer and we will say so on the call.

Which parts of the Greater Toronto Area do you work with?

All of it, because the work is remote. In practice a good share of our regional projects sit outside the downtown core: manufacturers and distributors in Mississauga, wholesale and trades businesses in Brampton and Vaughan, and established B2B and retail firms in Markham and Scarborough. Those companies usually run leaner internal teams and are less willing to fund a six-figure rebuild, so the briefs tend to be integration and migration work rather than greenfield product. Downtown Toronto briefs skew toward SaaS products and marketing sites that have outgrown their CMS.

How do you handle the time difference with Toronto?

Our working day is shifted so it overlaps yours rather than replacing it. The engineers on your project are online and reachable for the first three to four hours of the Toronto business day, every business day, and that is the window where calls, demos and review happen. A hand-off note goes into your channel when that window closes, covering what shipped, what is blocked and what we need from you. Anything you raise in your afternoon has been picked up and worked on by the time you start the next morning, not merely acknowledged.

What does a web development project cost in Toronto?

It depends on scope, but real ranges in Canadian dollars help more than a starting-from number. A platform audit or CRO sprint runs roughly $3,000 to $8,000 over two to three weeks. A marketing site rebuild is typically $12,000 to $30,000 across six to ten weeks. Shopify and Shopify Plus builds usually land between $15,000 and $35,000. SaaS and custom product builds start around $35,000 and run twelve to twenty four weeks. Ongoing retainers start at $999 per month. You get a fixed number after a scoping call, not a range that moves once work begins.

Do you build Shopify and Shopify Plus stores for Toronto retailers?

Yes, and it is one of the more common briefs we get from the region. The usual pattern is a theme that was perfectly adequate at a couple of hundred orders a month and starts failing at a couple of thousand, normally because of accumulated app bloat and an unoptimised checkout path rather than Shopify itself. We rebuild the storefront, remove or replace the apps that are throttling performance, and connect the integrations that stop your operations team re-keying orders by hand. Our full scope is on the Shopify services pages, including migrations from Magento and WooCommerce.

Can you work alongside our existing in-house developers?

Yes, and that arrangement works well when the split is clear. We commit to a defined piece of the system while your team keeps ownership of the rest, working in your repositories, following your branching and review conventions, and joining your standups where it helps. We adapt to Jira, Linear, Asana or whatever you already run rather than asking you to adopt our tooling. What we ask for in return is one person on your side who can make decisions, because the slowest projects we have run were slow waiting for internal sign-off, not waiting for code.

Who owns the code when the project is finished?

You do, completely and without conditions. The repository, the documentation, the deployment configuration and every credential are handed over at the end of the engagement, and nothing is held back as leverage for a maintenance contract. We write handover documentation aimed at a developer who was not on the build, because the point of it is that someone else can pick the project up. If you later want to bring the work fully in-house or move it to another agency, that is a normal outcome and we will support the transition rather than obstruct it.

How quickly can you start on a Toronto project?

Usually within 48 hours of a signed scope, and discovery calls are generally available in the same week you get in touch. We keep the team deliberately lean enough that a new project fitting our current capacity can start quickly, rather than being parked behind a queue. What slows things down is almost never our availability, it is unfinished decisions on your side: which integrations are in scope, who owns content, and which stakeholder signs off on the design. We will flag those on the first call so they are resolved before they cost you calendar time.

What happens after the site or product goes live?

Every project includes 30 days of priority support for genuine bugs and regressions at no extra cost, because shipping something and walking away from it is not delivery. After that window, optional monthly retainers start at $999 CAD and cover ongoing development, security patching, dependency updates and monitoring, with no lock-in and cancellation at any time. Plenty of clients take the first month of support and then handle maintenance internally with the documentation we hand over, and that is a perfectly good outcome rather than a lost sale.

How do you handle NDAs, data security and Canadian privacy requirements?

NDAs are standard and signed before any sensitive detail is shared, including during the scoping call if you prefer. Every build goes through code review and full staging sign-off before it reaches production, and we do not push directly to live environments. For projects handling personal information about Canadian residents, we design around data minimisation, encryption in transit and at rest, and hosting in the region you specify, including Canadian data residency where your compliance position requires it. We will work to your security questionnaire and your legal team's requirements rather than asking you to accept ours.

Why hire a remote team instead of a Toronto agency?

Sometimes you should not. If the work needs constant in-person collaboration or your procurement rules require a local supplier, hire locally. The honest case for us is capacity rather than price: Toronto competes for engineers with New York and the Bay Area, so a senior full-stack hire is a large annual commitment plus roughly three months of recruiting, which rarely makes sense for a twelve week build. Engaging an external team buys you that capacity without attaching a permanent headcount decision to it, and the engagement ends cleanly when the build does.

Do you invoice in Canadian dollars?

Yes. We quote and invoice Canadian clients in CAD by default, and USD if your finance team prefers it, so you are not absorbing currency movement between the proposal and the final invoice. Payment is normally milestone-based against the agreed scope rather than hourly, which means you know the total before work starts. As a supplier based outside Canada, our invoices do not carry Canadian sales tax, and your accountant will confirm how imported services are treated for your GST or HST filing. We provide whatever invoice detail your bookkeeping requires.
