Shopify Website Audit

Find Out What’s Actually Costing You Sales, Before You Pay To Fix It

Most Shopify stores are carrying problems nobody has properly diagnosed: theme code nobody’s profiled, apps nobody’s checked for load impact, SEO gaps a PageSpeed score won’t show you, and checkout friction that only shows up in a session recording. An audit is where we find those problems, rank them by how much they’re actually costing you, and hand you a written report you can act on with any team, no commitment beyond the audit itself.

Manual + Tool-Assisted Review 40-Point Audit Checklist Findings Ranked By Impact 5 To 7 Business Days Senior Shopify Consultants Platform-Neutral Findings
Why Run An Audit

What A Proper Audit Changes Before You Spend A Dollar

A Shopify Website Audit is a structured review of your store’s technical health, user experience, SEO foundation, conversion path and security posture, carried out by a senior Shopify consultant using both automated tooling and manual inspection of theme code, app configuration and analytics data. It exists to answer one question honestly: what’s actually costing you sales, and in what order should you fix it.

Stop Guessing What To Fix First

Every finding is ranked by estimated revenue or traffic impact, not listed alphabetically or by how easy it is to explain.

Reduce Wasted Dev Spend

Fix the three things actually costing conversions instead of rebuilding a section that was never the problem.

Improve Core Web Vitals

Theme and app scripts profiled individually, not summarized into a single Lighthouse number you can’t act on.

Recover Lost Organic Visibility

Indexation, schema and technical SEO gaps that a generic free scanner doesn’t check for at all.

Lift Conversion Rate

Checkout, product page and navigation friction identified from real behaviour data, not from a hunch.

Close Security & Compliance Gaps

App permissions, checkout data handling and privacy pages reviewed against Shopify’s current requirements.

Brief Any Dev Team With Precision

A written spec detailed enough for our team, your in-house team, or another agency to execute against.

De-Risk A Rebuild Decision

Know whether you need a fix, a redesign, or a full replatform before committing budget to any of them.

What’s Covered

Five Audits, One Engagement

Run your store through three free online scanners and you’ll get three different scores and no explanation of what to do about any of them. Automated tools are good at surfacing symptoms, a slow LCP number, a missing meta tag, but they don’t read your theme’s Liquid code, they don’t know which of your twenty installed apps is actually injecting the render-blocking script, and they have no idea your add-to-cart button silently fails on one mobile browser. That’s the gap between a free scan and a real audit: someone with Shopify engineering experience opening the code, reading the app list line by line, and testing the store the way a customer actually shops it.

Technical & Code Audit

Checks: theme code quality, app bloat and script conflicts, Core Web Vitals, render-blocking resources.
Approach: Lighthouse and WebPageTest data cross-checked against a manual read of the theme’s Liquid, JS and installed app list.
You get: a ranked list of exactly which files and apps are slowing the store down.

UX Audit

Checks: navigation clarity, mobile usability, product page structure, form and filter behaviour.
Approach: a full click-through as a first-time shopper on desktop and mobile, plus a read of session recordings and heatmaps where available.
You get: the specific friction points, with screenshots, not a generic usability score.

SEO Audit

Checks: technical SEO, structured data accuracy, indexation status, internal linking, duplicate content.
Approach: Search Console data, a full crawl, and manual validation of schema against Google’s current requirements.
You get: a prioritized list of indexation and schema fixes, not just a keyword report.

Conversion Audit

Checks: checkout friction, cart abandonment triggers, trust signals, page-to-page drop-off.
Approach: funnel data reviewed alongside a manual walk-through of the entire purchase path on a live cart.
You get: the two or three friction points most likely explaining your current drop-off rate.

Security & Compliance Audit

Checks: app permission scope, checkout data handling, privacy and policy page completeness, PCI posture.
Approach: every installed app’s requested permissions reviewed individually against what it actually needs.
You get: a punch list of over-permissioned apps and missing compliance disclosures.

Analytics & Tracking Audit

Checks: GA4 event accuracy, pixel duplication, consent-mode configuration, attribution gaps.
Approach: tag manager and dataLayer inspected against what’s actually firing in the browser.
You get: confidence that the numbers you’re making decisions on are actually correct.

What Audits Usually Turn Up, By Industry

The same 40-point checklist applies everywhere. What it actually finds tends to follow a pattern by vertical.

Shopify audit findings common in fashion and apparel stores
Fashion

Fashion & Apparel

Challenge: fast seasonal launches leave old collection pages, redirects and duplicate variants unaudited.
Finding: audits typically surface 30 to 60 orphaned redirect chains and duplicate PDP content.
Outcome: a cleanup roadmap that recovers organic traffic without touching this season’s build.

Shopify audit findings common in food and beverage stores
Food

Food & Beverage

Challenge: delivery-window and perishable inventory logic often run through five or six apps layered on over years.
Finding: audits regularly find two or three of those apps still firing scripts long after they stopped being used.
Outcome: measurable page-weight reduction just from removing dead app code.

Shopify audit findings common in healthcare and wellness stores
Healthcare

Healthcare & Wellness

Challenge: regulated products need age verification and clear policy disclosure, easy to overlook under launch pressure.
Finding: audits regularly catch missing consent language or checkout fields collecting more data than needed.
Outcome: a compliance punch list reviewed before it becomes a bigger problem.

See Healthcare Solutions
Shopify audit findings common in B2B and wholesale stores
B2B

B2B & Wholesale

Challenge: net-terms checkout and tiered pricing are highly custom and rarely stress-tested end to end.
Finding: audits often uncover pricing tiers that silently fail to apply for specific customer tags.
Outcome: a prioritized fix list that leaves the parts that already work alone.

See B2B Solutions
Shopify audit findings common in electronics stores
Electronics

Electronics

Challenge: compatibility rules and heavy comparison tables tend to bloat page weight without anyone noticing.
Finding: audits often trace 20 to 40% of load time to configurator or comparison scripts that were never optimized.
Outcome: a targeted performance fix list instead of a full storefront rebuild.

Shopify audit findings common in automotive parts stores
Automotive

Automotive Parts

Challenge: fitment databases and legacy catalog imports accumulate structured data errors over time.
Finding: audits commonly find thousands of products missing fitment schema or shipping with broken markup.
Outcome: a scoped SEO fix that recovers rankings without re-architecting the catalog.

Tools & Technology

What We Actually Look At

Tooling gives us a baseline. The audit itself comes from what a consultant does with that data.

1

Core Web Vitals & Performance

Lighthouse, WebPageTest and Shopify’s own theme inspector, run against real device profiles.

2

SEO & Indexation

Google Search Console, a full site crawl, and manual schema validation against current requirements.

3

UX & Behaviour

Session recordings, heatmaps and GA4 funnel data, where available, reviewed alongside a manual walkthrough.

4

Security & Compliance

App permission review, checkout data-handling check, and a PCI and privacy-policy completeness pass.

5

Shopify Platform

Liquid, the Admin and Storefront APIs, and the theme’s architecture, read directly, not inferred from a score.

6

Reporting

Every finding documented with evidence, priority score, and an estimated fix effort.

Why Raulji Technologies

An Audit From People Who Also Build Stores

We don’t outsource audits to a junior QA checklist. The same senior consultants who scope custom builds and migrations run every audit, which is why the findings come with a realistic fix effort attached, not just a severity label.

On every audit

We Read The Code

Not just the score it produces. Findings are tied to specific files, apps and lines, not vague categories.

Platform-Neutral Findings

You’re free to take the report to your in-house team, another agency, or us. It’s built to be portable.

No Artificial Urgency

An audit is not a sales pitch dressed up as a diagnostic. We tell you what’s actually wrong, even when the answer is “not much.”

Built By The Team That Fixes It

Because the same engineers scope custom builds, every finding comes with a realistic fix effort, not a guess.

Security Reviewed Properly

App permissions and checkout data handling checked individually, not assumed safe because an app is popular.

Low Commitment By Design

An audit is a fixed-scope engagement with a clear end date. No retainer required to get the report.

Where A Closer Look Changed The Plan

Three projects where a structured review of the existing store shaped what actually got built next.

Wayuvega Shopify store reviewed by Raulji Technologies
Store Review

Wayuvega

Starting point: a logistics platform whose merchants needed multi-courier connections that no installed app supported.
What a review surfaced: the gap wasn’t a broken feature, it was a missing one, which pointed the plan toward a custom app instead of more app-store searching.
Result: 3× merchant sign-up traffic, 47% higher conversion.

Checkout Review

Future Roots

Starting point: a mobile-first plant store losing customers at login and checkout on a standard flow.
What a review surfaced: the friction was concentrated in exactly two steps, OTP login and a multi-page checkout, not the storefront as a whole.
Result: 2.5× orders, 38% higher conversion.

Content & Theme Review

Adhyatmaa

Starting point: a spiritual products brand whose stock theme couldn’t tell the product stories the catalog needed.
What a review surfaced: the theme wasn’t broken, it was the wrong fit for the content, which changed the scope from patchwork fixes to custom sections.
Result: 3× traffic, 45% higher conversion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About A Shopify Website Audit

What exactly is a Shopify website audit?

It is a structured review of your store's technical health, user experience, SEO foundation, conversion path and security, carried out by a senior Shopify consultant using both automated tools and a manual read of your theme code, app list and analytics data. The output is a written, prioritized report rather than a dashboard score. Prioritization is the deliverable that matters most, because almost every store has dozens of findings and only a handful that move revenue. Each item carries the evidence behind it, so you can challenge a conclusion or hand it straight to a developer without re-diagnosing the problem.

How is this different from a free online scanner?

A free scanner gives you a score with no explanation of what caused it or which fix matters most. An audit involves somebody actually reading your theme's code, checking every installed app individually for load impact and permission scope, and testing the store as a real customer would, then ranking every finding by estimated business impact. Scanners also miss the whole class of problems that are not visible in page source: a shipping rule that excludes a region, an app still charging you for a feature nobody uses, or a checkout step that quietly loses mobile buyers.

Do I need to commit to a rebuild after the audit?

No. An audit is a fixed-scope, standalone engagement. Many clients use it purely to understand what is wrong before deciding whether to fix it themselves, hand it to their existing team, or bring it to us. There is no obligation to continue past the report. That independence is deliberate, because an audit whose real purpose is to sell the next project is not worth reading. If the honest finding is that your store is in good shape and the constraint is traffic or pricing rather than the site, the report will say exactly that.

How long does an audit take?

Most audits run 5 to 7 business days from the discovery call to the written report and walkthrough call, depending on catalog size and how many custom features the store has. The walkthrough is included rather than optional, because a written report gets read once and a conversation is where the priorities actually land with your team. Where we need Search Console or analytics access to answer a question properly, that access is what usually determines the timeline, so it is requested at kickoff. Urgent audits can be compressed if a launch or peak date is driving the deadline.

What is actually included in the report?

A one-page scorecard summary, every finding ranked P1 through P3 with supporting evidence such as screenshots and code references, and a roadmap grouping fixes into what to address now, next and later. Each finding states the likely business impact and a rough effort estimate, so you can weigh a cheap fix with moderate impact against an expensive one with high impact. The scorecard exists for the people who will only read one page. The evidence exists so a developer can act immediately, and so any claim in the report can be independently verified rather than taken on trust.

Can another agency or my in-house developer implement the findings?

Yes. The report is written to be portable and vendor-neutral. It is detailed enough for any competent Shopify developer, ours or somebody else's, to execute against without needing to re-diagnose the problem. Findings reference specific files, settings and templates rather than describing symptoms, which is what makes them actionable by a third party. We are happy to answer clarification questions from your developer after handover at no extra charge, because an audit that cannot be implemented by whoever you choose has not delivered what you paid for.

Do you audit the checkout and conversion path, or just performance and SEO?

Both, along with UX and security. The audit covers technical and code quality, Core Web Vitals, UX friction, technical SEO and indexation, conversion and checkout friction, and app permission and compliance review, five audits inside one engagement. Checkout gets particular attention because it is where the money is lost: Baymard's research puts average cart abandonment at 70.19%, with extra costs, forced account creation and slow delivery among the leading reasons. We walk your actual checkout on a real device rather than assessing it from code, since that is how customers experience it.

How is a Shopify audit different from Performance Optimization or CRO Services?

An audit is diagnostic: it tells you what is wrong and ranks it by priority, but does not implement fixes. Performance Optimization and CRO Services are implementation engagements that act on findings, whether from an audit or from ongoing testing. Most clients run an audit first so they know what genuinely needs fixing before committing budget to either. Buying implementation without a diagnosis is how stores end up paying for speed work when the real problem was a confusing product page, or for testing tools on traffic too small to reach significance.

Will the audit flag every app on my store, even ones I am not using anymore?

Yes. Reviewing the full app list for load impact and unused scripts is a standard part of the technical audit. It is common to find two or three apps still firing code long after they stopped being used operationally, and occasionally scripts left behind by apps that were uninstalled entirely. The review covers three things per app: what it costs in load time, what permissions and customer data it holds, and whether the feature is still in use. That last question is usually one for your team rather than ours.

What do you need from me to start the audit?

Just your store URL and, if available, access to Google Search Console and GA4. Everything else, the theme code review, app list review and manual walkthrough, we handle directly against the live store. Read-only collaborator access to the Shopify admin lets us review settings and app permissions properly, and we will explain exactly what each access is used for before asking. If you would rather not grant admin access, the audit still runs, with a note in the report on which findings could not be fully verified from the outside.

Is the audit specific to Shopify, or does it apply to Shopify Plus too?

Both. Shopify Plus stores get the same 40-point checklist plus a review of any Plus-specific features in use, such as Checkout Extensibility, Shopify Functions or B2B configuration. For multi-store organizations we audit each storefront rather than sampling one, because theme and app stacks drift apart over time and the weakest store is the one worth finding. Plus audits also cover organization-level settings that standard stores do not have, including staff permissions and market configuration, since misconfiguration there tends to be invisible until it causes an incident.
