Web Development Company for
Canadian Businesses

A Canadian web development company in everything but the postcode. We have designed, built and scaled digital products for Canadian businesses since 2014: websites and web apps, eCommerce on Shopify and Magento, custom software and AI automation. Interac at checkout, HST and GST handled by province, and SEO tracked on google.ca rather than global rankings.

Canadian eCommerce

Selling in Canada isn't the same as selling everywhere else.
We build for it specifically.

If your checkout doesn't show Interac, a chunk of your traffic just won't buy. HST in Ontario is not the same as GST + PST in BC. And ranking on google.ca takes a different approach than global SEO. These aren't edge cases - they're the foundation, and we get them right before launch.

Things we've had to figure out building for Canadian businesses

Interac comes up in almost every project. It's not optional for many buyer segments in Canada - especially outside major urban centres. If it's missing at checkout, you'll see cart abandonment that's hard to diagnose because it doesn't show up as a clear drop-off reason.

Tax is the other one. Ontario charges HST, BC charges GST + PST, Quebec has its own QST, and Alberta has no provincial sales tax at all. Get it wrong and you're either overcharging customers or under-collecting for CRA. We configure this correctly at build time.

We've worked with stores in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and smaller markets. Bilingual product pages for Quebec, Canada Post rate calculation at checkout, BNPL options that actually work in Canada - these go into every project by default, not as an afterthought.

Interac, Afterpay CA & PayBright - set up in the initial build

We wire up the full Canadian payment stack during the build, not as a post-launch add-on. BNPL options surface at product and cart level - that's where they reduce sticker shock, not buried at the final checkout step where it's too late.

google.ca SEO - tracked on the right search engine

A .ca domain, Canadian-specific schema markup, and bilingual keyword intent all factor into how you rank on google.ca. We don't repurpose a US SEO strategy and call it done - we build for the Canadian search landscape and report on it separately from global rankings.

HST, GST & PST - calculated correctly per province

We set up CRA-compliant tax rules during the build - not after you've been live for three months and someone notices the numbers are off. Each province is configured correctly from day one, including Quebec's QST and Alberta's no-PST rules.

Canada Post, Purolator & Canpar - live rates at checkout

Live carrier rates pulled directly from the API, so your customers see the actual shipping cost before they commit. We also build in fallback logic - if Canada Post's API goes down at 11pm on Black Friday, your checkout doesn't go down with it.

Why Work With Us

We're not the biggest agency.
We're the one that picks up the phone.

The most common thing we hear from new clients: their last agency was impressive in the pitch and went quiet after the contract. These are the four things we do differently, and we mean all of them.

01

EST and PST hours - questions answered the same working day

We're available during Canadian business hours. If you send something at 2 PM Toronto time, you hear back before end of day. Not the next morning. Not from a ticketing system.

02

Fixed price in CAD - scope is agreed before we start

We write out exactly what we're building, in Canadian dollars, and you sign off before a line of code is written. If something comes up that changes the scope, we talk about it - we don't just add it to the invoice.

03

Working software on staging every two weeks

Every fortnight you get access to the actual, working build in staging. Not a Figma prototype, not a percentage tracker - something you can click through, test, and give feedback on while there's still time to act on it.

04

Code and credentials are yours from day one

Source code, repo access, DNS credentials, hosting logins - all handed over in writing at project kickoff, not held until final payment. You're never dependent on us to get your own files.

Buyer's guide

How to choose a Canadian development partner

Written to be useful even if you hire someone else. Searching for the best web development company in Canada returns a list of agencies who each paid to be on it, which tells you nothing. These are the questions that actually separate them.

Ask who writes the code

The person on your sales call is frequently not on the delivery team, and at larger agencies the work is subcontracted again. Ask to meet the engineer who will build it, before you sign. A partner who will not arrange that is telling you something.

Ask what is fixed and what is not

A fixed price with an open scope is not a fixed price. Get the scope in writing, get the change-request rate in writing, and ask directly what has caused overruns on their last three projects. Vague answers here predict expensive months later.

Ask who owns the code and the accounts

Some agencies retain the repository, the hosting account or the domain as leverage for a maintenance contract. You want ownership of all three stated plainly in the agreement, along with a handover that includes documentation written for a developer who was not on the build.

Ask about the Canadian specifics by name

Interac at checkout, HST against GST plus PST against QST by province, Canada Post rates for remote postal codes, French for Quebec, and PIPEDA or Law 25 obligations. A partner who treats these as post-launch configuration has not built for this market before.

Ask what they would refuse to build

An agency that agrees with everything is selling, not advising. The useful partner will tell you when headless is the wrong call, when a rebuild is cheaper than a migration, or when your budget is better spent on traffic than on the site.

Ask what happens 30 days after launch

Find out what is covered free, what a retainer costs, how quickly a genuine production bug gets picked up, and whether you are locked in. The answer separates a build shop from a partner, and you only find out the hard way if you do not ask.

Our answers, for comparison

  • Who builds it: the engineer who scopes your project is on the delivery team, and you meet them on the first call.
  • Fixed scope: written scope, fixed price and a committed date before the first commit. Changes are priced before they are built.
  • Ownership: repository, documentation, hosting and credentials are yours at handover. Nothing withheld.
  • Canadian layer: Interac, per-province tax, Canada Post and bilingual support treated as scope, not configuration.
  • Saying no: we talk clients out of headless builds and full rebuilds regularly. It is in the write-up if we think it applies to you.
  • After launch: 30 days of priority support for genuine bugs at no cost, then optional retainers from $999 CAD per month, cancel any time.
  • The honest caveat: we are not Canadian. Our team is in India, working Canadian hours. If you need people in the room, hire locally and we will say so.
Cost comparison

Onshore, nearshore or offshore

We are the offshore column, so read this knowing that. We have still tried to describe the other two as their clients experience them, because the wrong choice here costs more than the rate difference ever saves.

Indicative senior developer rates and characteristics for Canadian buyers. Rates vary widely by firm.
Onshore (Canada)Nearshore (Latin America)Offshore (India and Asia)
Typical senior rate$120 to $250 CAD per hour$60 to $120 CAD per hour$35 to $75 CAD per hour
Live overlap with TorontoFull working dayMost of the working dayThree to five hours, if the partner schedules for it
In-person possibleYesOccasionally, with travelRarely, and not on short notice
Canadian market knowledgeAssumedVaries, usually learned per projectVaries widely. Ask for specifics, not assurances
Procurement frictionLowestModerateHighest. Expect security review and data residency questions
Best suited toWork needing constant in-person collaboration, or where local supplier rules applyLong-running product teams where near-full overlap matters more than rateDefined, scoped builds where senior capacity matters more than proximity
Main riskA twelve week build priced like a permanent hireSmaller talent pool for specialised stacksA partner who treats overlap as optional and answers at 3am your time

The rate is the least interesting number in that table. What actually decides the outcome is whether the partner schedules real overlap with your working day, and whether the scope was pinned down before anyone started building. A cheap team with neither of those costs more than an expensive team with both.

The honest case for engaging us is capacity rather than price. Toronto and Vancouver compete for engineers with New York and the Bay Area, so a senior hire is a large annual commitment plus roughly three months of recruiting. For a twelve week build that maths rarely works, and an external team lets you buy the capacity without attaching a permanent headcount decision to it.

When we say hire onshore instead

  • Your procurement rules require a Canadian supplier
  • The work needs someone physically present on a regular basis
  • The scope genuinely cannot be defined yet and needs daily in-person discovery
  • You are hiring a team rather than buying a build, and want them in your office

We would rather tell you that on the first call than take a project that was always going to disappoint you.

★★★★★

"We needed a full agency site rebuild and they delivered it properly - fast mobile scores, clean design, and a layout that actually gets enquiries. The conversion improvement was real and showed up in the first month. No fluff, no chasing - they just did the work."

★★★★★

"The B2B Magento 2 portal they built replaced a manual purchasing process that was eating up hours every day. Now it runs largely on its own. Their Magento knowledge went well beyond the basics - when we hit a tricky ERP sync issue, they worked through it instead of pushing it back on us."

★★★★★

"Our WooCommerce store finally works the way it was supposed to. Product filtering is solid, subscriptions run correctly, and the checkout doesn't drop people. The thing I appreciated most was they kept us in the loop throughout - not one of those agencies where you don't hear anything for weeks."

Got Questions?

No surprises.
Just answers.

Everything you need to know before we start. Can't find what you're looking for? Let's talk.

Ask us anything
01Are you a Canadian web development company?

Not by incorporation, and we would rather be straight about that than let a page imply otherwise. Raulji Technologies is an AI and eCommerce development company with offices in Vadodara and Bengaluru, trading since 2014 and delivering into 7 countries. What we run for Canada is a delivery team scheduled around Canadian business hours, quoting and invoicing in Canadian dollars, and building the Canadian layer as scope: Interac at checkout, per-province tax, Canada Post rates and French for Quebec. If your requirement genuinely needs people in the room, hire locally and we will tell you so.

There is no single answer, and any agency claiming the title is selling rather than advising. What separates good partners from expensive ones is answerable in six questions: who actually writes the code, what is fixed in the contract and what is not, who owns the repository and hosting at the end, whether the partner names the Canadian specifics without prompting, what they would refuse to build, and what happens 30 days after launch. Ask those of every shortlisted firm, including us, and the list narrows quickly.

It depends on whether you are buying a build or hiring a team. Onshore rates in Canada typically run $120 to $250 CAD per hour and are worth it when the work needs constant in-person collaboration or procurement requires a local supplier. Nearshore in Latin America sits around $60 to $120 and suits long-running product teams that value near-full overlap. Offshore runs roughly $35 to $75 and fits defined, scoped builds. The rate matters far less than whether the partner schedules genuine overlap with your day and pinned the scope down before building.

The right offshore partner gives you senior engineering talent at a sustainable cost, without giving up quality or communication. You get a dedicated team that works Canadian hours, ships on a fixed scope, and hands over clean, documented code you fully own. The honest framing is capacity rather than price: Toronto and Vancouver compete for engineers with New York and the Bay Area, so a senior hire is a large annual commitment plus months of recruiting. For a twelve week build, an external team buys that capacity without a permanent headcount decision attached.

Every project runs on a shared Slack channel with a named contact who works Canadian hours. You get working demos on a regular cadence, and we join your standups when it helps. Most clients hear back the same business day. A hand-off note goes into your channel when our overlap window closes, covering what shipped, what is blocked and what we need from you, so anything you raise in your afternoon has been picked up and worked on by the time you start the next morning rather than merely acknowledged.

Yes. We staff projects to overlap with Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific hours, so whether you are in Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver, you reach us during your workday, not the next morning. The scheduling differs by region rather than being one rota: a Toronto project gets its live overlap in your morning, while a Vancouver project needs the team available later in our day to catch Pacific hours. We set that up per project instead of expecting you to take early calls.

Depends on what you are building, and we would rather give you real ranges than a starting-from number. Smaller fixes, CRO work, or platform audits start around $3,000 to $8,000 CAD over two to three weeks. Full Shopify or WooCommerce builds typically fall in the $15,000 to $35,000 CAD range across four to eight weeks. Enterprise Magento projects and SaaS product builds run higher, generally from $35,000 CAD. Multi-vendor marketplaces start around $45,000 CAD because they are three products rather than one. Ongoing retainers begin at $999 CAD per month. We scope it properly and give you a fixed number before work begins.

Most Shopify projects land in 4 to 8 weeks. Magento enterprise builds are usually 10 to 16 weeks depending on what is being integrated. Headless builds run 14 to 26 weeks because you are building the storefront the theme previously gave you for free. We give you a committed delivery date in your proposal, and if it slips you hear about it from us before it happens, not after. What usually delays a project is unfinished decisions on your side, so we flag those on the first call.

We can usually start within 48 hours of signing. We keep the team lean enough to start quickly when a new project fits, and discovery calls are available the same week you reach out in most cases. What slows things down is almost never our availability, it is decisions that are still open on your side: which integrations are in scope, who owns content, and which stakeholder signs off on design. We raise those on the first call so they get resolved before they cost you calendar time.

Shopify, Shopify Plus, Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce, WordPress and WooCommerce, Next.js, React, Node.js, Laravel and BigCommerce, plus AI development and automation. We also handle platform migrations and the Canadian integrations that decide whether a store is actually usable here: Interac, Canada Post and Purolator rates, HST, GST, PST and QST by province, and google.ca SEO rather than global rankings. For subscription products we build on Stripe Billing, Chargebee, Recurly or Paddle depending on how your pricing model works.

Yes. We have integrated with Canada Post, Purolator, FedEx CA, NetSuite, SAP, Salesforce, Klaviyo, ShipStation, and 100+ other platforms using APIs, webhooks, and custom middleware to connect your entire commerce ecosystem. The work that matters is usually error handling rather than the happy path: what happens when the ERP is down, when a webhook is delayed, or when two systems disagree about stock. We build those cases explicitly, because that is where integrations quietly create manual work for your operations team.

Yes, this is common. We handle the Shopify or Magento specialisation while your team focuses on other priorities. We work in your GitHub repos, join your standups, and adapt to Jira, Linear, or whatever tools you already use. What we ask for in return is one person on your side who can make decisions, because the slowest projects we have run were slow waiting for internal sign-off rather than waiting for code. A clear split of ownership between the two teams matters more than the tooling.

Every project includes 30 days of priority support for genuine bugs and regressions at no extra charge. After that, optional monthly retainers start at $999 CAD for ongoing development, security patches, and monitoring. No lock-in, cancel any time. Plenty of clients take the first month of support and then handle maintenance internally using the handover documentation, which we deliberately write for a developer who was not on the build. That is a perfectly good outcome rather than a lost sale, and we will not make it difficult.

Every build goes through code review, automated tests where applicable, and full staging sign-off before launch. We do not push straight to production, and deploys are built to be reversible rather than final. NDAs are available and signed before any sensitive detail is shared, including during the scoping call if you prefer. For projects handling personal information about Canadian residents we design around data minimisation, encryption in transit and at rest, and hosting in the region you specify, including Canadian data residency where your compliance position requires it. We work to your security questionnaire rather than asking you to accept ours.

All of them, because delivery is remote. Most enquiries come from Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, followed by Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa and Montreal. Toronto and GTA briefs have their own page covering Mississauga, Brampton, Markham and Vaughan. Alberta grocery and food projects are covered on the grocery and F&B page. Quebec work carries a French language requirement that runs across the whole product surface, including transactional email and invoices, not just the marketing pages, and that needs deciding before the build rather than after.
